Objective
“To provide education and care to the children in the red-light area during the peak hours of sex-trade and keep them away from any wrong influences.”
Rationale
More than 80% of the women in red-light areas are illiterates. They are unable to provide very needed help or a conducive environment for their children’s education. This results in their poor academic performance, repeated failures and ultimately they drop out of the school. When they grow up they face poverty, unemployment and consequently make entry into flesh trade.
How does the DLC help?
Children are provided with necessary material help and snacks or a meal.
Children stay secured and receive proper care and attention during mother’s peak business hours and are kept away from being exposed to such vices.

History
Deepika Life Center started in July 2003. We have been operating in the space provided by the community.
What We Do
The Deepika Life Center is an educational project providing support, care and security to children in the heart of the red-light area during peak business hours of the sex trade. The Deepika Life Center has helped hundreds of children gain self-confidence and improve their academic performance, thus reducing the number of failures and school drop-outs. Some of our children have graduated and are now employed.
The DLC functions Monday through Friday and provides the children with:
Guidance for their school studies
Karate classes for self defence
Group sessions with teenagers
Educational supplies
An evening snack
Emergency Medical Care
College and Career counselling
